| Titles: Tale of a trip to France Eric - Was your trip great, to France, last month? Isabelle - Yeah, it was fun, but it's a little weird there. [yeah, the mentality] not at all. Over there, uh... E - First of all people had a hard time understanding my accent. I - When I would go get ice cream, for example, that's not what they call it over there, they call it 'ice,' so uh...when I happened to want ice when I wanted a...cone of strawberry icecream, well I would uh ask for a strawberry ice, but they didn't understand, I had to repeat it about six times, same thing for butter, some butter, they couldn't understand when I asked them for some butter. E - In order to find out, I xxxx with my brother in order to uh...find out how they say feet there, because they said another word, I remember, I - [I dunno if you...] No, I dunno. They had these weird expressions that we understand...that we don't understand, but they don't always understand so uh...And there's not, I know the lifestyle's really different over there like uh...people there they... restaurants are only open during a certain time of day, here ya know you can eat at...at midnight you...you can eat, you can eat dinner. but there, you can't eat supper at midnight, [ you hafta be there on time ] you hafta be there at supper time, and if you wanna eat dinner, well then you hafta be there at dinner time; as far as food goes...they think we're really weird about that, but it's not uh... E - Are the beaches nice? I - Yeah, oh yeah, I...at Cannes and at Nice. E - The Riviera... that's a ways, right. I - Well yeah it's possible there. We're not really used to that, but um...it's possible to cross France in...in a day's time.[oh yeah] Which makes it...that it's not advisable because you're on the road a lot, but it's...you can do it there. E - Ok, well I think I 'll go there. I - But you need to...you need to be prepared for a something weird [yeah] to make yourself understood, to explain things a lot because sometimes they think we're a little backwards, and they think we live in log cabins, and that we live under six feet of snow, all the time, so they're really surprized to see us in a bathing suit, they wonder where we could have bought it. E - Well at any rate, I need to go to bed. [ok] Bye. |
