Mission The MLRC has four primary functions: To give CMU students access to materials for the study of language and culture. Audio, video and computer workstations are available for onsite work, while Web and file servers are maintained by the MLRC to enable remote network access. To promote the development of new materials for the learning of language and culture by the faculty of the Department of Modern Languages at Carnegie Mellon. A Faculty Development area dedicated to this purpose includes computer workstations, a scanner, audio and video digitizing capability and advanced authoring and media-related software. To facilitate second-language acquisition research which includes a media or computing dimension. To serve as a technology-enhanced classroom for the Department of Modern Languages

What's there? Student access area: 11 eMac workstations, 6 PCs. All workstations equipped for sound and multi-lingual wordprocessing. Project/faculty development area: Server room: File, Web, and Media servers. All Macintosh Xserves. Audiocassettes, videocassettes, laserdiscs, electronic and paper dictionaries, software and courseware, audio CDs, CD-ROMs for language learning.

Who can use it? Any member of the Carnegie Mellon campus community, students, faculty or staff.
