French Online, while dependent on technology for its support structure, strives to accomplish the same goals that characterize French instruction at Carnegie Mellon generally. Our goals encompass both language and culture. We hope that our students will gain sufficient language skills to communicate with French speakers, whether they may be from France, Louisiana, or Sénégal. We also strive to acquaint our students with many dimensions of the diverse cultures of which the French language is part. Those dimensions include literature, film, history, poetry, theatre and song, as well as and everyday social practices.
