Carnegie Mellon University
French Minor Program
Advisor: Dr. Bonnie L. Youngs

The French minor at Carnegie Mellon consists of six courses, after the intermediate year (currently, after course 82-202 Intermediate French II). As of January 2002, the required courses for the French minor will have changed slightly, but six courses are still the norm. These six courses break down as follows:

82-303 (9 units): French Culture
82-304 (9 units): The Francophone World
82-305 (9 units): French in its Social Contexts
82-4xx (9 units): a fourth year French/francophone elective course
82-4xx (9 units): a fourth year French/francophone elective course
a course (9 units) thematically related to French and francophone studies, offered by any department on campus, in consultation and with permission of the minor advisor

These courses may be fulfilled on Carnegie Mellon's campus, in an approved study abroad program, or as transfer credits from another university. The transfer credit advisor will approve courses for application to the minor program, prior to registration at another university, and definitely prior to leaving for study abroad.

Any questions on the French minor, transfer credit, or EPFL transfer credit/courses can be directed to Dr. Bonnie Youngs at byoungs@andrew.cmu.edu, in her office (PH225A), or at (412) 268-8050.
