Dear 82-131 students,
Nimenhao! The lesson test (2) (L1+L2) will be held next Monday (9/22). The format is as follows,
(1) Listening test (listen and circle the right sound;
listen and mark the tones;
(2) character (write out Pinyin (+tones) & English)
(3) Grammar: fill in with ma, ne, shei and shenme.
(4). A dialogue for you to complete
(5) translation
study tips: (1) memorize well for the Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 characters and texts; (2) Review homework

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship: Spring 2004 Cycle Now Open The Institute of International Education (IIE) is now accepting applications for the Spring 2004 cycle of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IIE through its Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas, this program enables students who have limited financial means the opportunity to participate in undergraduate study abroad opportunities worldwide. The program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen undergraduate students at two- and four-year institutions to pursue country-based study abroad programs of up to one academic year. Community College students - both two-year and transfer - are particularly encouraged to apply. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and cannot be studying abroad in a country currently under a U.S. Department of State Travel Warning or in Cuba. This cycle of the Gilman International Scholarship is for study abroad programs that start between January 1 and April 15, 2004 and would include short-term and winter intersession programs that begin within the eligible start dates. Mid-autumn festival party
Dear 82-131 students,
Nimenhao! The Chinese Mid-autumn festival (Zhongqiu jie) is coming up on Sunday Sept. 18. It is one of the most important festivals in Chinese culture. In general, it is a time for Chinese families to get together, watch the big bright moon and have fun.
We Chinese program is going to celebrate the Mid-autumn festival together on Friday (9/16).
Time: 9/16 (Friday), 4:00-6:00 PM
Place: Porter Hall 18A, 18B and 18C
Activities: Eat moon cakes, snacks, fruits, see a Chinese culture display and some performances (Martial arts, singing, and games....etc)
