Modern Languages Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Modern Languages offers undergraduate majors and minors in language and cultural studies inChinese, French and Francophone Studies, German, Hispanic Studies, Japanese, Russian, European Studies, Russian Studies, as well as an interdisciplinary major in International Relations. We also offer a range of certificate programs in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.

We offer Modern Languages students a rich variety of learning environments. Our award-winning faculty provide unparalleled classroom instruction. Students can also enroll in online classes in Spanish and French. And, the Modern Language Resource Center offers a wide range of leading edge learning technologies.

All undergraduate students are also encouraged to participate in one of several study abroad programs that are available, from shorter summer programs, to one-semester and full-year programs.

Studying a foreign language is not only desirable but essential for successful integration into our current multinational, pluralistic world. Proficiency in a foreign language by itself, or combined with other professional training, may lead to a variety of rewarding careers. Moreover, the personal experience of mastering another language is enriching and gratifying.
